【英文文法】Besides, Except 分不清楚吗？一次搞懂「除了」的用法！

明明中文都翻作「除了」，你分得清楚 besides/ except吗？

究竟「包含、不包含」的用法该怎么用？apart from 又是哪一种意思呢？

 

先来小试身手一下！

Q：Allen 和 Betty 究竟会不会去派对呢？

1. Except for Allen and Betty, Cherry will  go to the party.

2. Besides Allen and Betty, Cherry will go to the party.

第一个例子中，Allen 和 Betty 不会去派对！

而第二个例子则是会去派对！

来帮助大家厘清「除了」的用法吧！

这样的「除了」介系词/ 副词，总共有三大种：

1. 包含
2. 不包含
3. 通用（视句意/ 前后文来决定是否包含）

1.「包含」用法 — 「除了...之外；还有...」

用于附加说明，后方所指的人事物，被包含在内，

与主要句子/前一句，可能为同一属性/性质/褒贬义等等，

分为介系词与副词用法：

(1) 介系词：in addition to/besides

后面接名词或动名词

【例句】

1. After Mary gains a huge sum of money, she buys an apartment.
In addition to/ Besides the apartment, she plans to travel around the world.  

在玛丽得到一大笔钱后，她买了公寓。除了公寓之外，她还计划环游世界。

2. In addition to/ Besides the astronaut, there is still extraterrestrial.

除了太空人之外，还有外星人。

(2) 副词：in addition/ besides/ on top of that

后面加逗号，逗号后面为完整句子 [主词+动词+(受词)] 。

【例句】

After Mary gains a huge sum of money, she buys an apartment.

In addition/ Besides/ On top of that, she plans to travel around the world. 

在玛丽得到一大笔钱后，她买了公寓。除此之外，她还计划环游世界。

【补充】

addition前面的add- 字首就是「加上」，addition是名词，指增加的事物。

2.「不包含/排除在外」用法 — 「除了…之外，其他都…」

用于强调差异性，后方所指的人事物，被排除在外，

与主要句子/前一句，可能为不同属性/性质/褒贬义等等，

分为介系词与连接词用法：

(1) 介系词：except/except for

后面接名词或动名词

【例句】

Except for this requirement, I can accept your offer.  

I can accept your offer except/ except for this requirement.

除了这项要求之外，我接受你的提议。

【补充】

except 和 except for 有细微差别，

except 常涉及相同主题，通常不放句首；

except for 常涉及不同主题，并有些许惋惜之意，可放句首。

(2) 连接词：except/except that

后面接动词/完整句子

【例句】

In my opinion, this apartment is pretty good except/ except that its location is a little bit inconvenient.

我觉得这间公寓除了位置有一点不方便之外，其他都相当好。

3.「通用」 — 视句意/ 前后文决定包不包含

※只有介系词用法，后面接名词或动名词

介系词：aside from/ apart from/ other than

【例句】

1. I went shopping this afternoon. Apart from buying a beautiful dress,

I also bought the high-heeled shoes.

我今天下午去逛街。除了买了一件漂亮的洋装之外，我还有买高跟鞋。

根据句意，这里的apart from解释为「除了…之外，还有」，等于besides。

2. Other than the entrance fee, this amusement park is attractive.  

除了入场费之外，这个游乐园很吸引人。

根据句意，这里的other than 解释为「除了…之外，其它都」，等于except。
